Activist Leslie Feinberg presents. On Saturday, June 12, author Leslie Feinberg presents her original slide show In Our Own Voices, Transgender Oppression: A Visual History of When and Why it Arose. Feinberg is a Transgender activist who came out in pre-Stonewall Buffalo and passed as a man for many years.

She will also be performing selections from her novel Stone Butch Blues and from the anthology Persistent Desire, A FemmeButch Reader. The program will begin at 7 pm at the People Fightback center, 13018 Buckeye Rd. For more information call 921-8130. All are welcome.

Northern Ohio Physicians for Human Rights, a local chapter of the American Association of Physicians for Human Rights (AAPHR), has been formally organized. AAPHR is a group of gay and lesbian physicians and medical students dedicated to improving the health care of the gay and

lesbian community while offering its members both personal and professional support.

Plan to oppose Operation Rescue. Planning meetings are now being held to fight back against Operation Rescue's "Rescue America" crusade on abortion clinics set for July 9-18 in Cleveland. Cuyahoga Falls. Henderson, from Menlo Park, California, has been president since October, 1992, and spoke at the morning rally during the March on Washington. Dart was very effective in starting PFLAG's Detroit chapter which spawned. other chapters throughout the Midwest. She also helped Ann Beebe establish the Akron chapter.

The reception is from 6 to 7:30 pm and is free. The dinner, which costs $20, follows. Both portions of the evening are open to the public. Call Akron P-FLAG at 9231883 for more information.

Self-esteem in the lesbian-gay community-Dr. Shepherd Kominars, author of Accepting Ourselves: a twelvestep journey from addiction for gay men and lesbian women, will be making two appearances in Akron on May 25.

He will present a 9 am professional seminar, "Issues of Recovery in the Gay Community." Registration is $15 and continuing education credit approval is pending.

His evening presentation, "Self-esteem in the Homosexual Community," open to the entire community, begins at 7:30 pm. A $5 cost is specified, but no one will be turned away.

Both events are at the Community Drug Board, 725 E. Market in Akron. To register for the daytime program, call 836-8116, Changing Ways Bookstore, which is sponsoring the event. No registration is required for the evening session.

Gay Issues and the Mainstream Media-How are the Cleveland media covering gay issues, such as the March on Washington, the gays-in-the-military debate, and the recent controversy about the coming out of a character in the "For Better or For Worse" comic strip?

The Society of Professional Journalists will host a luncheon featuring WHK Gay 90's host Buck Harris, Chronicle publisher Martha Pontoni, and PD reporter Sabrina Eaton on a panel discussing these and other issues, at the Holiday Inn Lakeside, East 12th and Lakeside, on Thursday, May 20. What was the best sex you ever had? Brief (1-2 page) stories by gay men are wanted for a collection being compiled by Jack Hart, author of the best-selling book Gay Sex. Contributors are asked to accurately recall an actual experience, and to describe what made it stand out. Stories will be published anonymously and there is no payment; however, anyone who encloses a SASE with their story will get a coupon good for half-off on the published book. HIV massagers offered weekend of nurturing. Minneapolis-St. Paul will be the site of the Fifth National Conference for AIDS Massage and Bodyworks, July 911. This event is a healing, nurturing, bonding weekend open to people at all levels of involvement and interest in therapeutic touch and HIV.

The event, organized by the AIDS Massage Project of Minnesota, is a residential weekend and attendees will have exposure to national and local presenters.
